For over 125 years, Manteigaria Silva has been serving generations of Portuguese, being a pearl of traditional Portuguese trade.
From monarchy to republic, it is on Rua D.Antão de Almada that it continues to sell excellent products in a historic shop. It is not by chance that people queue up at the door, as the wait is justified. In one place, you will find the best products of national cuisine.
Today, divided between Bacalhoaria and Fine Grocery, it triumphs with regional products, including wines, cod, hams, sausages and cheeses. You will have the opportunity to taste ham cut as thin as paper, codfish faces and tongues (some little known parts), cheeses cured for 45 months or like those from Serra da Estrela, which melt on bread. Can you imagine a Presunto de Pata Negra aged 60 months? Eight kilos cost 1200 Euros and is said to be the best ham in the world!
Open Monday through Saturday. You can eat there or take it home.
