In the heart of Lisbon, in Rossio, since 1890 Ginjinha Sem Rival e Eduardino liquor sweeten the mouths of the people of Lisbon and all who visit it. Ginjinha Sem Rival means literally "unrivaled", and is a small bar that sells the traditional cherry liquor known as "Ginjinha". Since there are no places to sit, the tradition dictates that people bring their glass to the outside, and while they drink this liquor, they talk.
In this unparalleled spot that retains its original features with the antique marble counter, the liquor continues to be produced in the same handmade way that it has been for more than 100 years. The ginjinha is served in disposable cups and is asked "with them" or "without them", which are the fruits of ginja tanned in the liquor, and comes in the bottom of the glass.
In addition to this famous liquor, there is also the Eduardino, a sweet drink that joins anise and cherry, for many considered as good or better than ginjinha. Eduardino was a famous Italian clown who had a show at the Coliseum, and who went to this shop whenever he was in Lisbon. The story goes that he chose and mixed several types of liquor, creating a unique cocktail. In honor of Eduardino came this liquor that even today uses the same recipe invented by the clown.
