If your goal is to enjoy the lifestyle and architecture Lisbon offers, then without a doubt, one of the best ways to do it is to travel in the various funicular cars spread throughout the city of Lisbon.
The Elevador da Bica, also known as Ascensor da Bica, was inaugurated on June 28, 1892. It is one of the most famous and photographed funiculars in Lisbon for its steep route and the surrounding landscape that presents the Tagus River as a landscape backdrop. It can carry 23 passengers, and its 283m route connects Rua de São Paulo to Largo do Calhariz.
It was designed by Raoul Mesnier de Ponsard, a disciple of Gustave Eiffel, and has been a National Monument since February 2002.
