Located at Rua Escola Politécnica, in Lisbon, Galeria São Mamede has been a space of intense artistic intensity promoting modern and contemporary art in Portugal since the 60s. Nevertheless, it also played a crucial role in the retrospective exhibition of surrealism in Portugal.
A reference space not only for artists but also for collectors and critics committed to Portuguese culture. Its exhibition strategy relies on the classic artists linked to the gallery and new artists' promotion. It has an engaging program, and in keeping with the gallery identity, it invites writers, poets, art historians and critics. Names such as Mário Cesariny, Noronha da Costa, Jorge Vieira or Risques Pereira were honoured on the walls of São Mamede.
You may take a virtual tour through the official website of the gallery.
Open Monday to Saturday from 11 am-8 pm.
