Underneath the ocean there lies an incredibly diverse wonderland of colourful creatures - you can learn all about them at this excellent oceanarium, which was designed by the American architect Peter Chermayeff. This showcase of underwater life contains 15,000 animals and plants in 30 different tanks, representing more than 450 species.
The largest indoor aquarium in Europe, it was constructed for the Expo 98 and it is built into a pier in an artificial lagoon. The most impressive exhibit is the enormous one thousand square metre tank with four large windows. Moray eels, groupers, barracudas, rays and sharks swim around this huge tank, giving you the impression that you are peering into the hidden world at the bottom of the ocean floor.
