Officially recognized in 2011 by Guinness World Records as the oldest bookstore in the world, the Bertrand bookstore was founded in 1732, and even after the 1755 earthquake, it rose again in 1773.
Its space is a true blend between the old and the modern, offering customers a bit of its history. It has 6 different rooms, all with names of great Portuguese authors.
Personalities such as Alexandre Herculano and Eça de Queirós have passed through here; this is where they used to meet to discuss literature and politics.
Since 2017, it features the Bertrand café, where you can enjoy a nice drink while reading a book. Its bookstore is very extensive and here you can find a little bit of everything.
