Caza das Vellas Loreto was born in 1789, and has been bringing light to the dark streets of Lisbon ever since. This shop is purely and simply about selling one thing: candles. Whether for religious, festive, decorative, functional reasons... And with all kinds of divine scents.
When it was founded, long before the use of gas and electricity, one of the conditions was that it illuminated the street with two torches, which remained lit during the night. This torch is still present today on the building's façade.
Their candles are all handmade using only their own moulds, they have some special creations such as Christmas candles or candles in the shape of Easter eggs. Run by the same family for generations, but always keeping the traditional and introducing new ideas to improve their pieces.
This fascinating shop is located near Bairro Alto in Lisbon, its decoration, with wooden cabinets full of candles are one of the reasons to visit.
