Founded in 1886, Chapelaria Azevedo Rua is one of the oldest houses in Lisbon, and the oldest hat shop. It has 5 generations of hat makers, and to this day, its quality is unmatched.
Its founder, Manuel Aquino de Azevedo Rua, gave up his work as a port wine producer to dedicate himself to this art, after his vineyards were ruined. In Lisbon, he opened not one but two shops. At a time when hats were the most important accessory, he soon became a success.
Its decoration still has the original style, with counters and shelves made of wood, polished and burnished. However, it is not only hats that you can find here, there are also walking sticks and gloves, even tricorns.
You can buy these beautiful products in the shop in Praça D. Pedro IV, or simply to admire such a historical and fascinating place.
