Puppets are truly fascinating. Extremely detailed and imaginative figures, they are brought to life with only a few strings and the talented hand of a puppeteer. The Museu da Marioneta is the first museum in Portugal dedicated to the art and history of the puppets. It has an intriguing display of dolls from the most diverse parts of the world and from various cultures.
Since 2001, the Museu da Marioneta can be visited in the Convento das Bernardas, a building that was built in 1653 and was almost completely destroyed in the earthquake of 1755.
Explore this fascinating collection of puppets and other theatrical items, including scene models, props, various examples of scene machinery, or reconstitutions of baroque period pieces and the wind machine to make storms.
